Michel Thérien

Michel Thérien is consultant and corporate director.

Since 2001, Michel Thérien has been consulting with clients in matters of strategic planning, acquisitions and divestments. Previously, he worked for nearly 20 years within the Mouvement Desjardins in many senior management positions, acquiring in-depth experience in business management and corporate governance as well as a broad understanding of the Canadian financial services industry.

Most notably, he was President and Chief Executive Officer of Desjardins-Laurentian Financial Corporation, the company that comprised all of the Mouvement Desjardins’ life insurance, general insurance, trust, securities, and asset management businesses. He also led the integration of Desjardins Life Assurance, Laurentian Life, Imperial Life, Laurentian Financial and Aeterna Life into a single organization.

Earlier in his career he worked at the Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec and Teleglobe Canada, and as a management consultant and project manager, notably for overseas projects of the World Bank.

Michel Thérien is a member of the Financial Asset Management Committee of the Solidarity Fund QFL. He is a business administration graduate of Université de Montréal, where he obtained his MBA in 1974.
